How can we help?

Across the nation gyms, studios, dojos, summer camps have entered various phases of reopening (or preparing for) and welcoming students back into action. Alongside the joy (and relief) of seeing students again is the additional responsibility of thoughtfully planning toward keeping children and communities safe during these unprecedented times.

Alongside the joy (and relief) of seeing students again is the additional responsibility of thoughtfully planning toward keeping children and communities safe during these unprecedented times.
Over the last few weeks, we’ve gotten many calls from coaches and owners asking a myriad of questions about sanitizing equipment, and suggestions for meeting social distancing guidelines of keeping kids safely spaced while moving… not an easy task!

We’re here to help.

Here’s a compilation of some of the most frequently asked questions about sanitizing and equipment care.

Creating Space in your Space

Q: What are your recommendations for items that will help students to stay socially distanced from each other.

A: Coaches and teachers are challenged with the thoughtful task of keeping active students a safe distance away from each other. At the Preschool level, some have coined this type of classroom management akin to “herding kittens”. But, with some creative markings, and well-spaced stations, you may be closer to achieving this difficult task.

VELCRO markers:   Many gyms and programs have carpet bonded foam matting that accepts hook velcro markers. Use Tumbl Tape, Velcro Numbers, Hands and Feet or Hook Fastener Rolls anywhere students will need to be given directions to wait in line or space themselves out. Giving students a visual marker on the floor will help them to know where the safe boundaries are.

Self Space Makers:  When we created the Build-A-Mat we had no idea it would be so useful for creating safe space between athletes. These individual “tumbling mat” panels can be tossed anywhere and everywhere kids need a place to land, literally. Two lengths and many colors to choose from, including one carpeted panel. Down the road, use the 4-sided Velcro to attach the panels together in a myriad of creative ways!

Micro Stations:  Coaches are used to innovating creative stations for skill development but now stations provide a great amount of organization for students to keep good distance.   Smaller items like Sectional Balance Beams at 4 foot long allows students to practice balance skills individually, or, a 90cm Hot Spot provides built-in personal space.
