If you are a gymnastics coach with an interest in providing programs for children with special needs, or if you are a therapist with an interest in incorporating more movement and sensory integration techniques into your practice, or if you are a teacher who works with children with special needs…. This training is for you and you AND you!

Our good friend, Gene Hurwin MA, OTR/L, has been combining his love for gymnastics with his education in occupational therapy for over 20 years. He believes the two fit seamlessly together, which led to the development of his one-of-a-kind certificate program, The Big Fun Method. This training is designed to enhance and improve the skill set of the recreational coach, teacher, or therapist in their work with children with special needs.

The Big Fun Method provides an understanding of diagnosis, behaviors, and observation and outlines a step-by-step model for creating and executing a lesson plan. The method is appropriate for children of all diagnosis, and will also inform your work with typically functioning children. The training combines a basic gymnastic skill set with fundamentals of occupational therapy. The hands-on, process-oriented workshop is held in a gymnastics setting and takes the participant from concept to practical application of skills.

Topics for this workshop include motor planning, praxis, organizational behavior and behaviors related to specific diagnosis, sensory integration/processing, using rotation to address arousal, trampoline, obstacle course, human anatomy and neurology as related to brain function.
